JD Sports joins the line-up at the Liberty Romford

Sports fashion retailer JD Sports has added its name to the retail line-up at The Liberty Romford, the 110-unit shopping and lifestyle centre in east London.

JD Sports, which had been located in The Brewery centre, will take a new 10-year lease on a 16,970-sq ft unit including 4,000 sq ft of ancillary space. The unit was part of the 36,700-sq ft former BHS store which has been divided by the landlord into three units.

The JD Sports letting comes hot on the heels of six other new lease and lease renewal deals at centre, which is owned by Cosgrave Property Group. Those recent deals include two major anchor unit lease renewals for Boots and Next, and new leases for Vision Express, Holland & Barrett, mobile phone operator 3 UK and Krispy Kreme.

Zone A Rents in The Liberty Romford average nearly £200 per sq ft. The centre is anchored by H&M, Next, Boots, WH Smith, River Island, Topshop/Topman with SuperDry, Virgin Media and Footlocker also among the extensive line-up.

Ronan Rooney, head of commercial property for Cosgrave Property Group said: “JD Sports has become the latest retailer to recognize the powerful fashion and lifestyle draw of The Liberty and its circa 20 million annual footfall and securing their tenancy is a great endorsement of the centre and its appeal. Interest by retailers in the centre been robust and reflects the regional destinational appeal of The Liberty Romford.”
