NewRiver signs Marks & Spencer for Canvey Island retail park with works poised to commence

NewRiver has secured Marks & Spencer Simply Food for its re-development in Canvey Island activating a formerly disused site. Marks & Spencer further strengthens the previously confirmed retailer line-up including Sports Direct and B&M.

The signing of M&S brings the currently vacant development site to 72 per cent pre-let, triggering the next phase of preparation works to begin. NewRiver intends to start work on site within the coming months, with shops anticipated to open in Summer 2018.

The new retail and leisure park will total 61,000 sq ft and will include five large modern units, a food and beverage ‘pod’ and will introduce 256 new free car parking spaces in addition to the 550 provided by the adjacent Morrisons store. M&S has taken an 11,500-sq ft store with Sports Direct taking 7,500 sq ft and B&M 25,000 sq ft. The two remaining vacant units will be located between the M&S and Sports Direct units to form a new purpose-built retail parade.

The agents acting for NewRiver are McMullen Wilson and Morgan Williams.
