Shearer plans leisure-led revamp for Cathedral Lanes
Shearer Property Group has submitted a planning application for a further phase of retail and restaurant units over the ground and first floor of the city centre mall. The works will capitalise on public realm improvements currently being carried out by Coventry City Council on the adjoining Greyfriars Lane.
Under the plans a new entrance will be created for anchor tenant Wilko opposite Primark, while new glazing will enhance the look of the building and outdoor seating will be created at first floor level.
SPG purchased Cathedral Lanes shopping centre from Hammerson for £5.5m in October 2014. An initial phase of leisure development saw pre-lets secured with Wagamama, Las Iguanas and Cosy Club which opened in September 2015.
SPG managing director Guy Shearer said: “We have been consistent and clear all along that without the decision taken by the council to invest in the public realm improvements in the city centre, particularly in Broadgate, we would not be investing in improvements to Cathedral Lanes. Coventry has lots going on and we are pleased to be playing our part in helping facilitate the council's ambitious aspirations to create a vibrant city centre environment for the benefit of its residents.”
If approved work on the scheme could start as soon as June 2017.
