Glasgow fashion and lifestyle shopping destination Princes Square has been named ‘Scotland’s Favourite Building’. The prstigious award, part of the Royal Incorporation of Architects’ Festival of Architecture 2016, was made by Fiona Hyslop, the Scottish Government’s Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Tourism and External Affairs.
The Scotstyle competition, voted for by the public, recognised Scotland’s Top 100 buildings from 1916 to 2015 and was a key element of the 2016 Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design celebrations. To win, the centre beat competition from the Scottish Parliament, the National Museum of Scotland and Dundee Contemporary Arts. Princes Square was the only building in Glasgow to have made the final shortlist.
Claire Wilkinson from Princes Square said: "We know that Princes Square has always been one of the most special places in Glasgow to visit, both from a design point of view and from a retail experience, and that is now the case for the whole of Scotland. Every one of the other 99 Scottish buildings nominated for the award are truly outstanding and fantastic examples of architecture at its best."
