Capital & Regional and Queensberry Real Estate sign up for shopping centre apprenticeship programme
Queensberry Real Estate and Capital & Regional have committed to appointing and training retail property apprentices through Retail Path – an industry-wide apprenticeship programme operated by the BCSC Educational Trust and National Skills Academy for Retail.
The two firms will aim to give the apprentices practical experience in the different specialisms required to efficiently operate a shopping centre, from centre and facilities management to sales.
Queensberry Real Estate will roll out the apprenticeship programme at its Friars Walk scheme which launched only last week in Newport. Capital & Regional will roll out the programme at its The Mall, Camberley. The apprentices will benefit from working with centre management teams and retailers. They will develop their customer service skills from both a corporate and consumer perspective, taking up roles for which learning how to engage with the general public and the centres’ tenants will be a priority.
Retail Path was set up by the BCSC Educational Trust and National Skills Academy in 2014 to make steps to address the issue of youth unemployment and to encourage more young people to consider a career in the retail property industry.
Peter Drummond, chairman of the BCSC Educational Trust, said: “2016 is nearly upon us and we are extremely excited to announce both Capital & Regional and Queensberry Real Estate have committed to support Retail Path. The programme is giving young people a professional point of entry into the retail property industry. It is great to see those who would not typically have access to our industry, or an understanding of the diversity of careers involved, joining Queensberry Real Estate and Capital & Regional by taking their first steps towards a rewarding career. We look forward to recruiting more apprentices for the retail property industry across the UK.”
