Tesco to close last six Homeplus stores
Tesco’s remaining Homeplus stores in Bristol, Bracknell, Nottingham, Denton, Bromborough and Preston are to close on 27 June, marking the end of a decade-long experiment in standalone electricals, homeware and fashion stores.
The six sites are understood to be among the 43 closures announced Tesco last month when it disclosed losses of £6.4bn. Tesco launched the Homeplus format in 2005 to build on the growing power of its private label ranges while at the same time taking pressure off its increasingly crowded stores. Since then online retail has eaten into many of the sectors targeted by the Homeplus format.
