One new UK store a month planned for next three years
The French sports brand Decathlon has made a renewed commitment to the UK market and could eventually open 150 British stores.
Speaking at the opening of the brand’s 18th UK store on the Purley Way in Croydon, UK CEO Thibaut Peeters said. “We’ve been looking at Croydon for many years – it’s one of best destinations within the M25. The 25,000-sq ft store was acquired from Morrison’s failed Kiddicare venture and opens today just seven weeks after the deal was signed.
The launch marks Decathlon’s fourth UK opening this year after Harlow, Braehead and Oxford. "We really believe we need to offer more stores to the UK," said Peeters. Between 40 and 50 new stores are planned over the next three years and the UK portfolio could eventually reach 150 stores. Decathlon currently has 900 stores worldwide.
