Perth becomes the UK’s first iSTREET

Perth has become the first city in the UK to launch a new social media strategy to engage with both residents and tourists.

SOCIALiSTREET, a service run by Edinburgh-based DestinationCMS, has been launched to communicate through Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and YouTube in and around Perth including the city’s St John’s shopping centre.

The service will share local news, events and information from the local retail offering, including product sales and customer service information.

To help implement SOCIALiSTREET and ensure that every business in the area is represented and promoted, a team of ‘Brand Makers’ from the city will gather information every week to disseminate on digital and social media channels.

Councillor John Kellas, enterprise and infrastructure convener for Perth & Kinross Council, said: “We are very excited about SOCIALiSTREET. We know that the public are spending increasing amounts of time online and we wanted to make sure we were able to take advantage of the opportunity to engage with them about the things that matter to them most.”
