Curzon Cinemas and Michael Kors sign for Westgate Alliance’s flagship development

Westgate Alliance, the joint venture between Land Securities and The Crown Estate, has signed a five-screen Curzon Cinema and a flagship Michael Kors store to its development, Westgate Oxford.

Curzon Cinemas has signed a 21,690-sq ft boutique cinema space at Westgate. The leading arthouse cinema chain will use stunning Sony 4k digital projection set within an architecturally dramatic building positioned above the South Square inside the scheme. And international fashion success Michael Kors has agreed to take a 2,217-sq ft unit. The development has already secured John Lewis for 142,000 sq ft and a 47,393-sq ft Next.

Bert Martin, development director at the Westgate Alliance, said: “We are creating a world-class retail and leisure destination that will ensure Oxford’s shopping and dining offer is synonymous with its world-renowned heritage status.”

The 800,000-sq ft city centre development is due for completion in autumn 2017. Following the granting of Outline Planning Permission in March 2014, Westgate’s detailed design proposals and reserved matters have been submitted. A decision is due in the autumn ahead of the scheduled commencement of works on site in early 2015. CBRE and Cushman & Wakefield act as joint retail leasing agents for Westgate Alliance, while Davis Coffer Lyons acts as the food and beverage leasing agent.
