New retailers sign in Hammersmith’s Kings Mall
Global fashion retailer H&M has signed on a major new store at the Kings Mall shopping centre in Hammersmith, in west London, with sushi restaurant Wasabi set to open in the coming weeks.
Wasabi will open in store fronting King Street. H&M has taken 30,000 sq ft at the entrance to Kings Mall and will take possession once refurbishment work on the shopping centre completes in summer 2013. Other tenants include Primark, River Island, New Look, Foot Locker and WH Smith.
MP Kings Retail bought the centre in May 2011 and has now received consent for the refurbishment of the entire 300,000-sq ft retail centre. The major remodelling of the centre includes a new entrance from King Street, re-cladding the Mall, extending the Lyric Theatre to provide a children’s theatre and educational centre. Works are due to start in January 2013.
GCW and Cushman & Wakefield are letting agents and GCW associate director Chris Baker said that the H&M and Wasabi lettings are the first steps in a strategy to attract more high street brands to Hammersmith.
He said: “Kings Mall already provides a strong retail offer, but the refurbishment proposals and MP’s ambitions for the centre have the potential to significantly improve Hammersmith as a shopping destination. We believe that the combination of a major office based population with a large and loyal catchment is an attractive proposition to major high-street names – this project is about creating the right environment to seize that proposition.”
