Spate of new lettings signals turnaround for underperforming centre
In the latest letting Miss Selfridge has resited within Stevenage and opened in 3,500 sq ft adjacent to Dorothy Perkins in Westgate.
Bank has opened a store of 2,500 sq ft , and Baggage Factory has returned to the scheme and opened in Unit 10. And Unit 11, providing 1,700 sq ft has been let to Kiss Cards on a lease of five years at a rent of £40,000.
Since purchasing the 75,000-sq ft Westgate shopping centre from Aviva in March for £8.5m, WD has been busy working to revitalise the scheme. In addition to the lettings, WD has carried out some improvements to the scheme including improved lighting and entrance signage.
Peter Everest of WD, said "we bought the Westgate, in the knowledge that Stevenage has been under performing. We have shown that with some TLC it can start to perform and move forward. The arrival of Miss Selfridge, Bank, Baggage Factory and Just Cards is an encouraging start. This is only the first stage; there is more to come. Westgate's position as the fashion centre has been enhanced with the arrival of Miss Selfridge & Bank, joining River Island Dorothy Perkins and Blue Inc. We hope to get Westgate Stevenage back up the retail hierarchy to where it belongs."
